Black Rock State Park

We went camping at Black Rock State Park on June 7-8th. It was a good trip. The temperatures were HOT! We weren't able to get our favorite site #81 so we reserved #83 this year. It wasn't as private as #81 but we did have woods on 2 sides of our site & the people at the site directly next to us didn't arrive until Saturday night so it was more private than we anticipated.

We brought the "mansion" tent - which pales in comparison with most other tents when we go car camping - but is huge in comparison to our backpacking tents. The box it came in said "perfect as a kids tent or for backpacking" HA! the thing weighs about 18 lbs!

On Saturday morning we went for a hike on the Mattatuck Trail from camp to the Leatherman's Cave & back. We saw an orange newt.

The mountain laurel was blooming - some with pink blossoms and some with white. They were beautiful.

The terrain provided many overlooks with scenic vistas - and there were sections of exposed rock that brought you out of the trees to enjoy the sunshine.

After hiking we returned to camp & went for a swim in the pond. The water was the perfect temperature for cooling off on a hot day. Craig had his usual afternoon wood chopping fun while I relaxed in the hammock.

We cooked dinner over the campfire - keli dogs with baked beans - mmmm.

At night we relaxed in front of the fire & took pictures of the sparks as they flew through the air.

A small toad came to join us & feast on the insects that were attracted to the light.
