June 27th - 29th 2008 we went backpacking at Mount Greylock. They closed the auto road from May 2007-2009 so the only way to get to the campsites is to hike in. We arrived at the Haley Farm parking area just before noon on Friday, had lunch at the car & then began our hike in to the campsites.
Mike & Stef hiked in with us, here's one of the log bridges we passed along the way. Stef, Mike and Craig are all on the log bridge.

Just as we were arriving at camp it started to rain so Craig & I scrambled to set up the tarps so we would have somewhere to keep out gear dry.

Soon after we got the tarps and tents up Kevin & Gina arrived and we all spent some time relaxing in camp.

Saturday morning we got up and prepared for a day of hiking. We planned to take Sperry Road to the CCC Dynamite trail & from there intersect the AT which would take us to the summit of Mount Greylock. It was a great day for a hike, warm but with a breeze & the sun was shining. We found a nice rock outcropping to stop for snacktime.

It wasn't long before we could see the war memorial tower on the summit in the distance through the trees.

Stef had an ankle injury so she & Mike split off from the group shy of the summit & Kevin, Craig, Gina & I continued on toward the top. We arrived at the summit & hiked past the tower to relax in the grass on the other side.

After having lunch and taking some time to soak up some rays we headed back to camp. On the way we paused to take showers in the stream.
Then it was time for some high quality R&R.

The skies got threatning so we all spent some time under the tarps playing Uno.
Soon the storm blew over & we got a nice fire going.

On Sunday morning we were up early & packed up all our gear for the hike back to the cars. We decided to take the Haley Farm Trail down. What a great decision! The views were awesome & unlike the views from the summit you couldn't see any sign of human habitation. It was breathtaking.
